“Pearls”
Linen on wood, 120×80
To me, pearls – apart from being a symbol for superfluous wealth of course – always had this notion of soft, warm brilliance of self-sufficiency. They’re way more peaceful than those aggressive, showy diamonds. There’s a reason why, in pirate’s treasures, there are always pearls, but never diamonds. There’s also a reason why you shouldn’t cast pearls, not diamonds, before swine, as old Matthew already knew.
